How Often To Water Tomato Plants In Pots

The frequency of watering tomato plants in pots is determined by the size of the container, the weather, and the type of tomato growing in the pot. During the hot summer months and when the plant is actively producing tomatoes, a bush-style tomato growing in a 5-gallon pot needs daily watering, occasionally twice a day.

In general, you should water tomato plants in pots once a week. However, during a heatwave or when the weather is hot and humid, it is recommended to water tomatoes grown in pots twice daily. The first time should be at the break of dawn and again later in the evening.

It is important to check the soil every day and give a thorough drink every time you water. The top 6” of soil should be moist after each watering.
