What Is Palm Sunday

Palm Sunday is a Christian celebration that marks the beginning of the Holy Week leading to Easter Sunday. It commemorates Jesus' triumphant entrance into Jerusalem, when people laid down palms and branches in front of him as a sign of honor. On this day, Christians also remember Christ's sacrificial death on the cross, praise God for the gift of salvation, and look expectantly to the Lord's second coming.

Palm Sunday is the final Sunday of Lent and the sixth Sunday of Lent. It is also known as Passion Sunday in some Christian churches. During Palm Sunday Mass, palms are distributed to parishioners who carry them in a ritual procession into church.
