What Is Pentecost Sunday

Pentecost Sunday is a Christian holiday that takes place on the 50th day (the seventh Sunday) after Easter Sunday. It commemorates the descent of the Holy Spirit upon the Apostles and other followers of Jesus Christ while they were in Jerusalem celebrating the Feast of Weeks, as described in the Acts of the Apostles (Acts 2:1–31) . The Holy Spirit enabled them to speak in different languages and spread the word of God to people from different countries and cultures. This event is also known as the birth of the Christian Church.

The word "Pentecost" comes from the Greek word "pentēkostē" which means "fiftieth" .
