Ken Paxton is being impeached by the Texas House of Representatives for a range of abuses of his office that the committee’s investigators said may have been crimes. He is accused of having "abused the judicial process to thwart justice" by benefiting from the filing of a lawsuit by a campaign donor that "interfered with or disrupted payment of the prosecutors in a criminal securities fraud case against Paxton," which allegedly led to the "protracted delay" in the criminal case against Paxton in Collin County, Texas, the suburban Dallas area that is Paxton's home base.
The Texas Attorney General's office framed the impeachment process as an attack against Paxton and said Republican House Speaker Dade Phelan was "actively destroying Texas' position as the most powerful backstop against the Biden agenda".
