What Is Pentecost

Pentecost is a Christian holiday celebrated on the 50th day after Easter Sunday. It is also known as the "Feast of Weeks" and the "Feast of 50 days" in rabbinic tradition. The term Pentecost comes from the Greek Πεντηκοστή (Pentēkostē), meaning "fiftieth".

Pentecost is the festival when Christians celebrate the gift of the Holy Spirit. It is celebrated on the Sunday 50 days after Easter. It is also called Whitsun, but does not necessarily coincide with the Whitsun Bank Holiday in the UK.

Pentecost is one of the Great feasts in the Eastern Orthodox Church, a Solemnity in the Roman Rite of the Catholic Church, a Festival in the Lutheran Churches, and a Principal Feast in the Anglican Communion. Many Christian denominations provide a special liturgy for this holy celebration.
