Rich Communication Services (RCS) or Chat is a new messaging protocol that is intended as a replacement to SMS and MMS on Android. RCS packs richer features, including many of those available in the best instant messaging platforms like WhatsApp, Telegram, and Signal. RCS also mimics Apple’s iMessage in some ways.
RCS chats let you send messages over mobile data and Wi-Fi, share files and high-resolution photos, shows you when someone is typing, and shows you when messages are read. When you use RCS chats, your messages are sent using the Rich Communication Services (RCS) protocol, an industry standard for carrier messaging. Essentially, it is the long-overdue update text messaging has needed.
